So kind of an interesting story if you are a lame nerd like me: the internet has unearthed a recording from 1979 that sounds very similar to the underworld theme in the Super Mario games (played in, for instance, world 1-2 in Mario 1). So did Nintendo steal the song? I'd say it sounds similar enough that if nothing else it must have been a subconscious copying. Listen for yourself here.
