There's a pretty neat article up over at About.com about possible future applications of a cool technology called procedural synthesis. If you have seen those games that are way under a megabyte in size but that have very nice modern graphics and music, they are made using this technology. I think basically how it works is that instead of storing all the art and things as images and other files like that, they come up with an algorythm that can generate it all on the fly. This About.com article talks about the possibility of graphics that can scale themselves up automatically as computers get more powerful. Pretty interesting!
